Dr. James Peake Joins LMI as Distinguished Visiting Fellow

McLean, VA, June 30, 2009—The Honorable James B. Peake, MD, Lieutenant General, USA (Retired), Secretary of Veterans Affairs from December 2007 through January 2009, recently joined LMI as a Distinguished Visiting Fellow. In that capacity, Dr. Peake will help guide LMI’s efforts in the areas of national healthcare policy, military and veteran’s healthcare programs, and global health initiatives.

Prior to being nominated by President Bush to be the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Dr. Peake was the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Operating Officer at QTC, Inc., a provider of government out-sourced occupational health and disability examination services. He also served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Project HOPE, from December 2004 to November 2006.

Before joining Project HOPE, Dr. Peake was an Army officer for 38 years, retiring as a Lieutenant General. His last assignment was The Surgeon General, Department of the Army, and Commander, U.S. Army Medical Command. Dr. Peake is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy and Cornell University Medical College, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and American College of Cardiology.
