CDC Recognizes LMI’s Ed Cotton and Mike Grace for FMS Work
Washington, DC, November 24, 2009—The Coordinating Office for Terrorism Preparedness and Emergency Response (COTPER) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recognized Ed Cotton and Mike Grace of LMI for their “their accomplishments in improving work productivity with the building, deployment, and recovery of FMS,” or Federal Medical Station. The FMS program supplements hospital bed capacity in communities affected by catastrophic health events.
COTPER helps the nation prepare for and respond to urgent public health threats by directing and coordinating CDC′s terrorism preparedness and emergency response activities. It safeguards health and saves lives by providing a flexible, robust platform for public health emergency response.
Cotton and Grace were two of the five FMS team recipients of the group award for "Excellence in Improving Work Productivity" as part of the 2009 COTPER Honor Awards. This award recognizes the contributions of an individual staff member or team whose work has produced a significant improvement in a work process or has increased efficiency or productivity with a direct impact on advancing COTPER’s vision, mission, or goals. The nominator, Robert Phillips, is the Associate Director for Operations in the Division of Strategic National Stockpile at CDC.
Cotton, from LMI’s Health Systems Management group, and Grace, from the Operational Logistics group, have supported LMI work at CDC for several years. LMI furnishes FMS with program management support, but also deploys with it during emergencies. Cotton has deployed with and set up the FMS hospital sets for a number of hurricanes, and Grace managed the onloading logistics of the deployment from Atlanta. Both have worked heroic hours on the FMS program and are recognized by CDC as integral to the program’s success.
LMI, a not-for-profit firm headquartered in McLean, Virginia, has served the government since 1961, seeking to improve agency management through independent analysis and counsel in logistics, infrastructure, and resource management.
