LMI Introduces “Decision-Based Logistics” at Defense Manufacturing Conference 2009

McLean, VA, January 7, 2010—LMI’s Eric Gentsch introduced a new technique called “decision-based logistics” (DBL), which focuses on the decisions made in logistics support development, at the 2009 Defense Manufacturing Conference (DMC) in Orlando, Florida.

As Gentsch noted, DBL “introduces a logical hierarchy to the traditional integrated logistics support elements, defines each in the context of decisions that logistics planners must make, provides links to the defining documents, and provides the logistics planner with information on tools and methods needed to support those decisions.”

At LMI, the DBL concept has been implemented as a website, a DBL wiki whose goal “is to enable those procuring or using systems to write better logistics support requirements and those developing systems to create better logistics support plans.”

The DMC 2009 theme was “Government-Industry Leadership for Affordable Defense Systems.” The LMI DBL concept, which emphasizes collaboration to efficiently and thoroughly plan the life-cycle support of a system, is certainly in keeping with this theme.

LMI, a not-for-profit firm headquartered in McLean, Virginia, has served the government since 1961, seeking to improve agency management through independent analysis and counsel in logistics, infrastructure, and resource management.
