LMI’s Medical Cost-Avoidance Model Featured in AJPM Journal

LMI’s Medical Cost-Avoidance Model Featured in AJPM JournalMcLean, VA, January 12, 2010—Gary M. Bratt and Clark Spencer of LMI’s Water’s Edge office were among the authors of “The Army Health Hazard Assessment Program's Medical Cost-Avoidance Model,” published in the January 2010 issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine. This article updates their 2005 work, which resulted in a revised medical cost-avoidance model (MCAM) for estimating the costs associated with the failure to eliminate or control health hazards of the Army’s materiel systems.

The Army's Health Hazard Assessment (HHA) Program uses the MCAM to assess 18 types of health hazards found in materiel in the acquisition process. The revised model will help the HHA program target health hazards that could harm soldier health and hinder readiness. By eliminating these priority hazards, the Army can avoid the huge monetary and mission costs associated with sick or injured soldiers.

LMI, a not-for-profit firm headquartered in McLean, Virginia, has served the government since 1961, seeking to improve agency management through independent analysis and counsel in logistics, infrastructure, and resource management.
