Capabilities

LMI helps clients deal with a variety of topics related to technology assessment:

Our techniques include portfolio management, creating strategic technology road maps for research-oriented agencies, and developing analytical means for prioritizing competing projects. They align with higher-level agency objectives and performance measures, improving management and responsiveness to Office of Management and Budget (OMB) evaluation criteria.

Clients and Solutions

JPDO—Improving Air Transportation

LMI continued its support of the Joint Planning and Development Office, a multiagency effort to build the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NGATS). Our current efforts focus on producing preliminary estimates of the cost of building the NGATS and constructing analytical methods to ensure that the system will operate safely. The JPDO relies on LMI’s analysts and our unique suite of models to identify performance gaps and measure the benefits of alternative technology strategies.

For the Program Analysis and Evaluation organization in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, LMI developed a series of models to evaluate the impacts of different capabilities and technologies in air campaign scenarios. These models explicitly address the stochastic nature of air campaigns, generating quantitative estimates of uncertainty. They also work quickly on a desktop, enabling defense analysts to explore many more scenarios than can typically be analyzed with large campaign models.
