ENERGYCapabilitiesLMI works with government and other public-sector organizations to fulfill their energy management responsibilities. We develop and implement practical, cost-effective solutions that enable organizations to manage energy and protect the environment as they pursue their missions.
Our specific energy capabilities are as follows:
CLIENTS AND SOLUTIONSDESC—Evaluating Hydrogen as Defense Fuel Congress asked the Defense Energy Support Center (DESC) to evaluate the potential use of hydrogen as a defense fuel of the future. LMI helped DESC evaluate the state of hydrogen fuel development and analyzed the potential uses and timetable for global adoption of hydrogen as primary fuel. We supported DESC managers in the presentation of study results to congressional staff members and continue to support DESC as it looks at alternative future fuels.
DOD—Increasing DoD Use of Biofuels Congress required DoD to review its current use of biofuels and advise on the potential to increase that use over the next 5 years. LMI conducted a comprehensive study on the historical use of biofuels, current and future market environment and vehicle fleets, and associated infrastructure requirements. The results included several recommendations to increase the consumption of biofuels, several of which DoD has begun to implement.
GSA—Increasing Efficiency The General Services Administration's Public Buildings Service (PBS) wanted to reduce its environment, safety, and occupational health management costs by aggressively benchmarking itself against industry. LMI developed and helped implement a performance measurement program that saves significant costs, and PBS is linking the performance results to budget allocation awards.
Army—Utilities and Energy Support The Army headquarters commercial utilities program leadership wanted to update Army policy on the acquisition and sale of energy and other utility services. Working closely with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers staff, LMI drafted new Army Regulations to update and enhance utilities management, incorporating best management practices to save money and take advantage of utility market conditions. LMI is also developing a web-based application to better centrally manage the program. This application allows the Army to evaluate execution of the utilities program at all command levels, identify opportunities for cost savings, and ensure adherence to Army utilities acquisition and sales policies and guidance. |
