EVENTSAdm. Pilling Speaks to LMI Staff on Military Compensation Discusses findings of the Defense Advisory Committee on Military Compensation
McLean, Virginia, May 23, 2006—Adm. Donald L. Pilling, CEO of LMI, presented findings and recommendations from the Defense Advisory Committee on Military Compensation to the LMI staff. The Secretary of Defense formed the committee in March 2005 and appointed Adm. Pilling chairman. Adm. Pilling briefed the results, first to Secretary Rumsfeld in January, and then to the Deputy Secretary of Defense and service chiefs, including the Coast Guard. The final report was delivered in April, and Adm. Pilling testified before the Subcommittee on Military Personnel of the U.S. House of Representatives on April 4.
After studying the full range of the military compensation system, the committee made several controversial recommendations to modernize it, recognizing the needs of today’s force and offering flexibility to force managers. Adm. Pilling presented the findings and recommendations of the study to the staff at a brown bag lunch meeting. (These meetings provide LMI staffers the opportunity to discuss research of interest with their colleagues.) At the presentation, LMI staff members asked questions about the study findings, such as the costs of the recommendations, implementation time, and next steps.
