EVENTSLTG Mortensen Speaks to LMI Staff as Part of Distinguished Speakers Program Offers insight into changes at Army Materiel Command
McLean, Virginia, August 28, 2006—Lieutenant General William E. Mortensen, Deputy Commanding General, Army Materiel Command (AMC), spoke to the LMI staff as part of LMI’s Distinguished Speakers Program. He discussed proposed changes in the organization of AMC, particularly the September 22 standup of the new Army Sustainment Command. The goal of the new command is to better integrate acquisition with logistics and link those directly to the soldier in the field. LTG Mortensen emphasized that the new command is part of a cultural shift in the how AMC provides support to the field army. Following his prepared remarks, he responded to questions from the staff.
LTG Mortensen also serves as the Executive Director for Conventional Ammunition as the Army Materiel Command Chief of Staff. He previously commanded the Military Traffic Management Command, Eastern Area, and was the first Commander of the Military Traffic Management Command Deployment Support Command, Fort Eustis, Virginia. He also commanded the 21st Theater Support Command, United States Army Europe, and Seventh Army, Germany. His most recent assignment was as the Director of Logistics and Engineering, J4, United States Central Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Florida.
