NEWSLMI to Join with NCMA to Recognize Outstanding Acquisition Papers Inaugural call for papers for the W. Gregor Macfarlan Excellence in Contract Management Research and Writing Program.
McLean, Virginia, September 19, 2006—The National Contract Management Association (NCMA) has announced a writing competition in memory of W. Gregor “Greg” Macfarlan. LMI is pleased to join NCMA in supporting the inaugural solicitation for the W. Gregor Macfarlan Excellence in Contract Management Research and Writing Program.
Mr. Macfarlan was a senior research fellow at LMI and a member of the LMI Research Institute. He worked in the acquisition profession for more than 40 years and served at LMI from 1993 until his death in October 2005. His passing left a void in the field of federal acquisition workforce training, particularly in the area of teaching people how to prepare and use the performance-based contracts to which the federal government turned in the 1990s. Macfarlan was actively involved in the programs and operation of NCMA, the leading professional association in the procurement field. He served as the association’s national president, a fellow, and honorary life member and, in 1997, received its Charles A. Dana Distinguished Service Award.
The NCMA program will award monetary prizes for superior papers relevant to contract management for three categories: graduate research, professional research, and undergraduate paper writing. Theoretical and empirical papers relevant to the practice of contract management are welcome. Papers may be presented from a variety of basic disciplines, such as business, finance, marketing, management, accounting, management information systems (MIS), public administration, economics, business education and related fields, as long as the research is relevant to the contract management field. For more information on the inaugural solicitation for papers, go to http://www.ncmahq.org/publications/articles/macfarlan.asp.
