McLean, Virginia, August 30, 2004—LMI, a private, not-for-profit corporation dedicated to improving public-sector management, today announced that it has promoted Jeff Bennett to vice president of Logistics Management, one of three operating units at LMI. He replaces Norm Betaque, who is retiring after 32 years with the organization. Before his promotion, Mr. Bennett served as program director for LMI’s Maintenance and Logistics Analysis group, which is splitting into two new groups—Maintenance and Readiness Management, and Logistics Analysis—under the program direction of Dennis Wightman and Eric Gentsch, respectively.
Mr. Bennett, who has been with LMI for 7 years, was a member of the Senior Executive Service and served as the Director, Force and Infrastructure Cost Analysis Division, for the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Program Analysis and Evaluation. He has a BS in mathematics from the University of Washington and an MS in operations research from the Naval Postgraduate School, where he received the Military Operations Research Society Graduate Research Award. As vice president of Logistics Management, Mr. Bennett will oversee studies and analyses for the Office of the Secretary of Defense, military services, defense agencies, Department of Homeland Security, General Services Administration, and other federal agencies.
Mr. Bennett replaces Norm Betaque, who has retired after 32 years at LMI. Mr. Betaque served as an officer and vice president since 1980, with experience spanning a broad range of logistics topics, including supply chain management, weapons systems acquisition, deployment and sustainment of military forces, and readiness of military units.
“Jeff’s military and federal experience, combined with the excellent work he has done at LMI, strongly position LMI to continue its 43-year history of improving public-sector management,” said Admiral Don Pilling, president and chief executive officer at LMI. “While we will deeply miss Norm’s presence at LMI, we look forward to the contributions that Jeff will make in this role.”
As program director for the Maintenance and Readiness Management group, Dennis Wightman will oversee a variety of maintenance and readiness tasks for the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Logistics and Materiel Readiness), military services, and other government agencies. He is a former career Air Force officer with more than 30 years of public- and private-sector logistics management experience. In recent years, Mr. Wightman has been involved in a number of key logistics and maintenance studies that have resulted in significant changes to DoD logistics structure, policies, and practices.
Eric Gentsch will take over as program director for the Logistics Analysis group, where he will oversee business case analyses and consultation services in inventory management, industrial technology, and engineering management. Prior to joining LMI, Mr. Gentsch worked for the Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company, where he designed and implemented an international logistics planning system, managed manufacturing and assembly operations, and led a methods engineering group. He has a BS and MS in operations research and an MBA, all from Cornell University.
