ArchivesLMI Welcomes Young ProfessionalsClass of 2005 Four recent graduates of public policy graduate programs will participate in a broad spectrum of LMI projects
McLean, Virginia, August 9, 2004—LMI, a private, not-for-profit corporation dedicated to improving public-sector management, today announced the arrival of the Young Professionals Class of 2005. The Young Professionals Program is a yearlong rotation program that emphasizes development of analytic and consulting skills in the service of government, supported by extensive mentoring and professional training. The class of 2005 consists of Ian Cook, Ike Kim, Aman Luthra, and Benjamin Thompson.
“Everyone at LMI joins me in welcoming these four members of LMI’s 2004–05 class of the Young Professionals Program,” said Admiral Don Pilling, president and chief executive officer at LMI. “I am confident they will make significant contributions to LMI’s public service mission and will find LMI to be a great place to work.”
Ian Cook holds a master’s degree in public policy from the Irving B. Harris School of Public Policy Studies at the University of Chicago. Some of his coursework there included econometrics, game theory, statistics, globalization, and American grand strategy. His bachelor’s degree is from the College of Wooster, where he majored in English. Prior to graduate school, Cook worked as a lead content strategist at Scient, Inc., in Chicago. As a management and technology consultant, he created personnel structures and software-based solutions to deliver content resources to multiple audiences. One of Cook’s initial assignments at LMI will be to provide support to NASA on a project that examines the benefits of technological initiatives for bad-weather conditions.
Ike Kim comes to LMI from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government with a master’s degree in public policy. Some of his coursework included business/political strategy, public finance, economics, budgeting/financial management, negotiation, and leadership. Kim also holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations from the United States Military Academy at West Point. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, Kim served in the United States and Korea during a nine-year tenure in the Army. Kim will be working with the Department of the Treasury, Financial Management Services, supporting electronic data interchange and XML support work in the Electronic Business Strategies group.
Aman Luthra received master’s degrees in public administration and geography from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from the University of Maine. Luthra was a teaching assistant while at Syracuse, teaching environmental pollution and policy as well as population and the environment courses. In addition, he gained consulting experience while in graduate school through a position at Loretto, Inc., a nonprofit elder-care facility in Syracuse. There he conducted a communications audit and employee survey to identify internal communication problems. One of Luthra’s initial assignments at LMI will be working on enterprise solutions with the Information Management group.
Benjamin Thompson recently graduated from the University of Maryland’s School of Public Affairs with a master’s degree in public policy. He also holds bachelor’s degrees in history and education from Fairfield University. While in graduate school, Thompson served as a teaching assistant for courses in quantitative methods in policy analysis, as well as institutions, governance, and economic development. Prior to receiving his graduate degree, Thompson taught economics, finance, and accounting courses at the National University of Uzbekistan while in the Peace Corps. At LMI, Thompson will work on the GSA National Response Plan Project with the Logistics Analysis group.
