Washington, DC, June 29, 2005—Mike Canes, Director of the LMI Research Institute, was recently elected to the Council of the National Capital Area Chapter of the International Associationfor Energy Economics (IAEE).The IAEE is a worldwide non-profit professional organization based in the United States, with members in more than 70 nations. It provides an interdisciplinary forum for the exchange of ideas, experience, and issues involving energy economics. The National Capital Council is the local chapter's governing body, organizing talks, meetings,and other events for IAEE members in the Washington DC area. Mike's selection is for 1 year, and is effective immediately.
The LMI Research Institute is dedicated to advancing the science of government management. It oversees LMI's Independent Research and Development program, conducts outreach efforts through its Executive Forums and other means, sponsors LMI's Distinguished Speaker series, and aides LMI researchers to prepare and publish the results of their work.
A nationally recognized expert in the field of energy economics, Mike joined LMI in 2000 after a distinguished career as vice president and chief economist of the American Petroleum Institute. His areas of expertise include energy economics, energy management, energy policy, environmental management, and environmental economics. He earned a BS in mathematics and an MBA from the University of Chicago, an MS in economics from the London School of Economics, and a PhD in economics from UCLA.
