newsLMI Responds to Katrina Emergency Contributes acquisition and logistics expertise
McLean, VA, September 2, 2005—Today, Don Pilling, LMI’s CEO and President, announced several actions that LMI has taken to help federal authorities respond to the Katrina emergency.
Through existing contracts with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, two employees, Dick Donahue and Mike Grace, are helping the CDC in Atlanta purchase 500 bed contingency hospitals for use in several locations throughout southern Louisiana and Mississippi. Two other employees, Danny Addison and Lee Thompson, are in the New Orleans area, working with CDC employees to receive and establish the hospitals.
Another employee, Jon Kissane, will depart next week to serve as the Operations Liaison For Project HOPE on the hospital ship USNS Comfort, which will be stationed near the disaster area. A former Director of Logistics for the Surgeon General of the U.S. Army, Jon previously served for several weeks aboard the USNS Mercy during the Tsunami Relief.
LMI has also offered FEMA the services of four full-time employees to work its logistics and operations efforts. We are expecting a response to our offer shortly.
"We understand the tremendous challenges ahead and believe we can provide essential technical expertise in several critical mission areas," said Pilling. The total value of LMI’s technical support to the Katrina emergency is expected to exceed $100,000.
