newsMike Canes to Serve as Reviewer of Climate Change Assessment Joins Select Group of Experts
McLean, VA, September 9, 2005—Dr. Michael Canes, one of our Senior Research Fellows, has been appointed to be a reviewer on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's Fourth Assessment. The IPCC periodically assesses scientific, technical, and socio-economic information associated with human-induced climate change. This assessment will be the IPCC’s fourth major assessment since its establishment in 1988.
As a reviewer, Mike will draw upon his extensive background in economic modeling of the impact of climate change and his expertise in constructing annual estimates ofthe greenhouse gas emissions for the U.S. Postal Service.
The IPCC, which was established by the United Nations Environmental Programme and the World Meteorological Organization, performs comprehensive, objective, open, and transparent assessments of the risks of human-induced climate change, its potential impact, and the options for adaptation and mitigation. The IPCC does not carry out research nor does it monitor climate-related data. Instead, it focuses on conducting assessments of peer-reviewed, published scientific and technical literature.
