EVENTSWilliam G.T. Tuttle Jr. Speaks to LMI Staff Discusses results from Defense Science Board Task Force on Mobility
McLean, Virginia, November 17, 2005—Retired Army Gen. William G.T. Tuttle Jr. spoke to the LMI staff as part of the LMI Distinguished Speakers Program. He presented conclusions from a recent Defense Science Board study, which focused on improving mobility, a key element of Force Transformation. Gen. Tuttle spoke of the need to find better ways to link transportation assets as the Department of Defense transforms its force structure. He stressed the importance of a long-term view so that DoD can invest in technology now in order to have it available in 20 years when needed.
Gen. Tuttle joined LMI in 1993 as president and chief executive officer. Before that, he was the commanding general of both the Army Materiel Command and U.S. Army Logistics Center, and, as the Army’s senior logistician, managed 100,000 soldiers and civilians. He also served as the Army’s Director of Force Management in the Pentagon, as Chief of the Policy and Program Branch at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, and as a representative to NATO’s Defense Review Committee. Upon his retirement in 2001, he was reelected to LMI’s board of trustees.
General Tuttle is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and earned a master’s degree in business administration at the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration. He holds Defense, Army, Navy, and Air Force Distinguished Service medals and numerous other U.S. military and foreign decorations and awards. He recently published Defense Logistics for the 21st Century, which is “sure to become the standard text in the field for many years to come.”
The Distinguished Speakers Program brings senior government officials to LMI to share their thinking on critical issues facing federal managers. |
