LMI hosted its eighth annual trivia event, LMIQ, which brings employees together to raise money for charities. The event was founded in 2012 by LMI’s former president and CEO Nelson Ford. Each year, employees form teams of six to compete for the coveted LMIQ trophy and a donation from LMI to a charity of their choice. To date, the event has raised over $73,000 for charities that are important to LMI employees.

LMIQ had a record turnout with 20 participating teams who played at LMI locations across the country. The top team, Children of the Korn, from St. Louis, Missouri, supported the Ronald McDonald House. Their epic come-from-behind victory occurred when they wagered double or nothing on the last round of trivia, jumping from sixth place to first. Securing the second-place spot was no easy feat either; three tiebreaker questions decided second and third place.

The senior leadership team issued a challenge to all the competing teams. Every team that received a higher final score than their team, Dave and the Trivia Busters, which included president and CEO Dave Zolet, was awarded $250 for their chosen charity. After a rough start, only four teams placed ahead of the senior leadership team’s participants.

With an opportunity to earn bonus points, participating teams turned up the creativity in costumes and team names for this year’s Heroes and Villains theme. Winning first place for both the top costumes and most creative team name categories, the Real Sheroes wowed the judges with not only their team name, but also their costumes representing various female heroes, such as Sally Ride and Amelia Earhart. Placing second for most creative costumes, the Just Us League assembled to save the world with one team member dressed as Bubble Boy, an Aquaman rendition complete with bubbles. The Super Mario Smarts included one overly zealous Donkey Kong; they placed third for their costumes and were ready to take down the competition. Placing second for best team name was a group of free agents who combined to form the Free Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., while Heroes or Gyros? It’s All Greek to Us. came in third place for their unique team name.

LMIQ’s organizer and emcee, Kerry McCarthy, is proud to see the event grow each year. He said, “LMIQ is a great way to capture the competitive, yet collegial, culture of LMI. LMIers at all our locations come together to have fun as well and to raise awareness and money for their favorite charities. It is wonderful to see so many of our regions and client-site staff participate.” He continued, “I’m thankful that I’m supported by some great volunteers to make this event happen so that everyone can enjoy the evening.”
