Fellows Spotlight: True to the Spirit of LMI

With experience in private industry, academia, and government labs, Dr. Shanmuga Sozhamannan has worked in three continents—Asia, Europe, and North America. In LMI, he has found “an amalgamation of the best of everything: ideas and innovation leading to a product that solves a problem and fills a need in the government or society as a whole.”

An LMI fellow since 2019, Shanmuga develops new offerings, capabilities, and business strategies, particularly in laboratory operations. He says, “Unlike many other institutions and private entities that focus on monetary aspects, LMI focuses on innovation and problem-solving.”

In collaboration with other fellows, Shanmuga creates multi-discipline, innovative concepts. He says, “The Fellows Program offers the platform and avenue for the exchange of ideas and expertise.”

With access to a vast pool of subject matter experts along with interactions for personal and corporate development, Shanmuga’s ideas are supported and promoted. His work is regularly published in peer reviewed journals, blogs, and op-eds; he also presents at conferences and meetings to expand LMI’s external visibility.

No matter where he is, Shanmuga says the Fellows Program “encourages the development of novel concepts and ideas for solving customer problems and incentivizes innovation by providing funds to test ideas.”

Learn More About Dr. Shanmuga Sozhamannan

As a biology fellow at LMI, Dr. Shanmuga Sozhamannan brings a wealth of knowledge in the infectious disease space. Shanmuga previously led a genomics lab at the Naval Medical Research Center and Intralytix, Inc., where he was a molecular biology lead, developing phage-based products for combating bacterial pathogens, such as listeria and salmonella, in ready-to-eat food products.
