Why did you choose LMI as part of your Hiring Our Heroes program?
I chose LMI because of the way employees spoke about the environment. Everyone was so happy with where they worked and what they were doing. I knew that I had to be a part of that.
What are your first impressions of LMI?
Aside from the friendly professionalism that abounds within the walls of LMI, there is a buzz of efficiency that I deeply appreciate and admire. LMIers know how to get the job done!
What advice would you provide to fellow spouses as they begin their search for employment?
First, start with the end in mind. Think about where you want to be and ascertain if there are crucial steps to getting there. Write that down. Tackle the first step, then the next, then the next, until you achieve your goal. Do not forget networking! That can be a significant aid to finding meaningful employment. I found out about the Hiring Our Heroes MSFP through networking. It is amazing what we can achieve when we work together to support each other!
What was the best advice you received from a peer or mentor about transitioning into the civilian workforce?
Network, network, network! This has always felt uncomfortable to me, but I have been fortunate to have some lovely people to help me. You must actively take part in seeking opportunities. I joined several social media–based networking groups that have been immensely beneficial.
What else should we know about you?
I grew up on a horse ranch in Oklahoma. Rehabilitating horses from the racetrack taught me tenacity as well as the value of compassion. The best results come when you are intentional.
