Thomas Lang

Dr. Lang leads LMI’s supply chain engineering capability under the supply chain management subservice line. He also supports the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Logistics [ODASD(Log)]. In this role, he leads the team supporting the Comprehensive Inventory Management Improvement Program (CIMIP). His team is developing DoD logistics policy, identifying and implementing inventory management process improvement efforts across DoD, and completing the annual Supply System Inventory Report (SSIR), an annual report to Congress. 

Before joining LMI in 2010, Dr. Lang worked at the RAND Corporation on a variety of multidisciplinary projects, including designing and optimizing reliable supply networks for the U.S. military, evaluating current and future advanced material use by the military, and analyzing Russian economic reform. To support these projects, he employed a wide range of optimization methods, including linear, non-linear, integer, and mixed-integer programming, and simulation and statistical and regression methods. Before his time at RAND, Dr. Lang was an Infantry noncommissioned officer in the U.S. Army and interacted at all levels of management and command, providing planning, visioning, and goal setting for senior management. 

Dr. Lang holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in economics from Kent State University and a master’s and doctorate in policy analysis from the Pardee RAND Graduate School. He also holds the Supply Chain Operations Reference Model Professional (SCOR-P) endorsement.
