LMI Presents Game-Changing Technologies to Government at INSA Innovators’ Showcase

May 9, 2017

LMI was recently selected to present at the 2017 Intelligence and National Security Alliance (INSA) Innovators’ Showcase, an annual forum for organizations to present independent research and development (IR&D) projects to government leaders in science, technology, and engineering.

LMI’s presentation, Tracking Production Phases of Oil and Gas Wells, detailed the development of deep learning algorithms used to detect and classify the production phases of oil and gas wells.

Since 2010, INSA has conducted the showcase at the TS/SCI-clearance level, drawing scientists, technologists, and engineers from the Central Intelligence Agency, Defense Intelligence Agency, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, National Reconnaissance Office, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

“This was a unique opportunity for LMI to participate in the showcase since this forum fosters public-private dialogue and a valued collaborative approach to innovation benefiting and furthering needed IR&D efforts,” said Dr. Linda M. Bixby, LMI’s vice president for the Intelligence Community Market.

Earlier this year, INSA sought unclassified abstracts on IR&D initiatives from academia and the private sector related to artificial intelligence and machine learning, cybersecurity and cyber operations, energy, the internet of things, sensing technologies, and other game-changing ideas. More than 110 abstracts were submitted to be considered for the 24 presentations, making 2017 the most competitive showcase yet.

“LMI has been supporting the U.S. government for more than 55 years, and we have a long-standing commitment to developing innovative solutions to upcoming needs and concerns facing national security,” Dr. Bixby said.

“The Innovators’ Showcase is one of the unique ways INSA brings the private sector, academia, and government together to explore and collaborate on solutions to national security challenges,” said Kevin Kelly, CEO of LGS Innovations and chair of INSA’s Technology and Innovation Council.

“We are pleased to see a record number of organizations express a desire to participate. Being chosen to present is a significant achievement, and contributions by these selected organizations greatly advance innovation in the Intelligence Community.”
