LMI Welcomes Dr. Sharon Hays as Senior Technical Fellow

September 25, 2018

LMI today announced that longtime science and technology executive Sharon Hays, Ph.D., joined the organization as senior technical fellow. Dr. Hays will assist chief technology officer Dr. Sanjay Parthasarathy with managing the LMI Research Institute and adopting innovative technologies in support of customer priorities.

“I am excited to have Dr. Hays join our team to drive innovation and help our customers adopt new solutions that result in measurable mission impact,” Dr. Parthasarathy said. “Sharon’s public sector and commercial experience in leading cross-functional teams is a tremendous asset to LMI as we develop capabilities and offerings to make our customers more agile, more digital, and more secure.”

Dr. Hays will spearhead LMI’s independent research and development program and cultivate strategies to leverage investments and LMI capabilities into new program opportunities and service offerings. She will represent LMI’s perspectives on technical choices with a keen focus on the “voice of the customer,” driving LMI’s technology strategy.

“LMI stands out in the government services sector as one of the few companies still investing in research and development, which it does through the LMI Research Institute. I am thrilled to help channel those investments into services that enhance our customers’ missions and propel LMI’s continued growth,” Dr. Hays said.

Dr. Hays has more than 10 years of private-sector experience, most recently at General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), where she managed several agency portfolios and led the High Performance Computing Center of Excellence. She served as vice president for science and engineering at CSC (now GDIT) from 2009 to 2013, leading development of corporate strategy related to science, engineering, and sustainability.

Dr. Hays entered industry after more than a decade of public service in the executive and legislative branches. From 2002 to 2009 she held roles in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), culminating as associate director and deputy director for science. Prior to OSTP, Dr. Hays spent three years as a professional staff member on the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Science, where she supported the subcommittee on space and served as staff director of the basic research subcommittee.

Dr. Hays is a former chair of the Committee on Science, Engineering, and Public Policy at the American Association for the Advancement of Science and in 2011 was appointed to the National Climate Assessment and Development Advisory Committee by former U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke. She also participated in the NASA Industry Forum from 2016 to 2018. She holds a bachelor’s in molecular biology from the University of California-Berkeley and a doctorate in biochemistry from Stanford University.
