Abstract: Wearable technology is revolutionizing sports analytics, enhancing athlete performance by providing data-driven insights for preemptively mitigating injury risk and ensuring prolonged careers. Similarly, this technology is also being used in Defense, promising to transform medical readiness assessments and promote force preservation of our warfighters.

Leveraging wearable sensor data can offer deeper insights into an individual’s state of well-being and the underlying context. Augmented by AI, this context expands beyond sensor data, engineering new data features and predictive models to infer meaningful data patterns that better quantify human readiness and impending risks. Analysis and interpretation of these insights drive courses of action that optimize, maintain, and sustain human readiness, even as individuals and their context—with respect to both themselves and their environment—change over time.

Overcoming challenges with the constellation of wearable sensor technologies available to the warfighter are expansive, including data interoperability, data privacy and security, integration with existing systems of record, and cultural resistance to tactical adoption of wearable technology. This workshop seeks solutions to these challenges by exploring the commonalities with mission and technology between Defense and the sports domain.

LMI's workshop, "The Warfighter Athlete: Intersection of Sports Analytics and Force Preservation," brings together government and academic leaders, alongside collegiate and professional sports teams, who will share perspectives, lessons learned, and future considerations. Keynote speakers, expert panels, and wearable demos will showcase the possibilities at the intersection of sports analytics and Defense force preservation.
