Spotlight: Addressing Complex Problems
Bruce Kaplan Logistics, Innovation at LMI, Defense Modernization, Strategy & Transformation, Innovation at the Pace of Need™, Emerging Technologies, Fellows Program, People Powering Possible™During Bruce Kaplan’s 30-year journey at LMI, he has seen the organization undergo multiple changes. However, throughout this upheaval, two aspects have remained constant: a strict focus on customer mission and an unwavering dedication toward hiring talented individuals.
Bruce says, “The money we invest in innovation shows that we mean it when we say LMI pushes the bounds of technology and innovation.” LMI’s commitment to innovation and exceeding customer expectations is what makes Bruce proudest to be a part of LMI, and it is ultimately what has kept him at LMI for the past three decades.
“I’ve been leading efforts to bring innovation to logistics for over 20 years,” says Bruce. “The best innovation needs two things: technology and the problem. My job is to not only find, develop, and push innovative technologies, but to help ensure they have value.”
“The best innovation needs two things: technology and the problem. My job is to not only find, develop, and push innovative technologies, but to help ensure they have value.”
As a logistics strategy and integration fellow, Bruce uses his expertise in defense logistics and research and development (R&D) to help LMI and its clients succeed. A few of his core responsibilities include anticipating client needs by uncovering areas of growth, searching for partnership opportunities to drive results, mentoring LMers, and assisting the LMI Research Institute with selecting R&D projects to fund.
In the year ahead, Bruce plans to help the Logistics service line with refining its five-year strategy, develop the concept of a sustainment analysis center, and assist the chief technology and strategy office with maturing the Fellows Program.
Bruce believes the Fellows Program differentiates LMI. He says, “I like helping our teams address hard problems, and being a fellow enables me to help folks without breaking the budget.”
